Natural Fertility

If you’re ready to start a family you want your health to be the best it can.  At Well2 we can help you with preconception nutrition advice,  assistance with stopping smoking, and advice on natural supplements.  If you’ve already been trying and things aren’t happening fast enough we can help with treatments such as acupuncture and herbal medicines.  Once you start actively trying to conceive we can help you with fertility diet advice, acupuncture and herbal medicine to try to speed the process along. We can also help with conditions such as amenorrhoea (absent periods), irregular periods and ovulation and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which can make it more difficult to conceive.

Fertility Support consultations are a one-off session conducted by our Naturopath and are recommended for all fertility clients.  The purpose of this consultation is to review your individual case and provide you with some recommendations based on your specific needs.  These recommendations will include fertility diet recommendations, stress reduction techniques, a discussion on exercise and other lifestyle impacts, as well as a review of any supplements you may be taking. If your case indicates that herbs or nutritional supplements would be of benefit we will also discuss these at this appointment.  At this consultation we will also formulate a tailored treatment plan based on your individual needs.  We encourage you to come to this appointment as a couple, but it is also fine to come on your own.  Your individual treatment plan will be based on your specific needs and will be fully discussed with you.  A Fertility Support Consultation is recommended but is not compulsory. If you just wish to book in for a specific therapy you are welcome to do that.

The therapies we may recommend for fertility include:

A naturopathic approach to fertility involves basic dietary changes to enhance fertility and the use of nutritional supplements or herbs.  These herbs or supplements are prescribed on an individual basis and are specific to your needs.  Herbs and supplements are used to correct deficiencies which impact fertility and modify physiological processes within the body, for example improving hormonal imbalances, regulate irregular cycles all of which can impact fertility.

Acupuncture is widely used to improve fertility through regulating cycles and hormone levels and reducing stress and anxiety.  Acupuncture also combines well with naturopathic treatment to deliver results for fertility clients.  Acupuncture may improve fertility with unknown cause (unexplained infertility) and can also help some recurrent miscarriage clients.  Acupuncture also improves male infertility by improving low sperm count, poor morphology and reduced motility.

If you are overweight or underweight this will almost certainly affect your fertility, and overweight males have just as much impact on overall conception success as females.  Our dietitian can help you with appropriate weight management ensuring that optimal nutritional status is maintained.  We can also help with dietary management if you are vegetarian, vegan or have a medical condition such as coeliac disease or food allergies which require you to remove foods from your diet.  Our dietitians can arrange couples appointments or individual sessions.

Stress can be a major factor for fertility clients.  For those undergoing IVF the stress can be compounded by the process itself. Well2 has a Clinical Psychologist who can provide assistance through counselling.  Hypnotherapy, also provided at Well2 by our clinical psychologist, may be useful for stress management for clients who are feeling especially anxious.  There is also some research evidence demonstrating increased pregnancy rates in patients who used hypnotherapy with their IVF cycles.

Why the choice of natural fertility clinic matters

If you’re choosing a clinic for natural fertility there are a number of things to consider.  Natural fertility is a very specialised field and the therapists treating you needs to be skilled and experienced in this area.   Knowing that the clinic uses treatment methods that have been validated through scientifically sound research trials gives extra reassurance.  A caring and understanding practitioner can be the difference between and good experience and a poor one.

Well2 has specialised in natural fertility for more than a decade.  Our practitioners are all highly skilled and experienced in natural fertility and have many years of experience in this specialised field.  We have now seen many hundreds of beautiful babies come into the world.

Getting started with natural fertility

A Fertility Support Consultation is the best place to start for natural fertility, and this consultation can take place at any time.  Making nutritional and lifestyle changes early gives your body time to get the best results.  At this appointment our naturopath will discuss an ongoing plan with the appropriate practitioner for your needs.  Alternatively, if you already know what treatment or support you would like with Well2 you can make an appointment with your chosen therapist.
